What are the side effects of this procedure? Will I have the moth-like look on the back of my head due to the large number of extracted follicles? Will people notice that I have had an operation? Are there post-procedure instructions so that I do not damage my new hair follicles? Will my DHI Doctor be available in case something goes wrong (i.e. infection)?
Will my new hair look natural? The DHI No Touch Technique™ is a groundbreaking procedure that provides amazing results. As the transplanted follicles grow, you will not be able to see a difference between your own hair and the transplants. Of course your hair will never appear as thick and full as it did in your teenage years, but your implanted follicles will grow healthy, natural hair. Even if you have a substantially receding hairline and large bald area, you will receive excellent coverage with this method. Back to top
How dense will my new hair be? In each DHI session, follicles are inserted between existing hairs or previously placed hairs. Follicles can generally be placed up to 1 millimeter apart allowing for an average density of 60 hair per cm2, equivalent to natural hair density before the onset of hair loss. Back to top

What are the side effects of this procedure?
- The local anesthetic can occasionally cause swelling of the forehead for 3 - 4 days post procedure. There is no pain, or danger, and only 10% of patients experience this side effect. Massaging the forehead gently from the center to the sides can help.
- Some patients develop small red individual spots in the recipient area of the head months after the procedure. This is an irritation of the skin and can be cleared up easily by using Betadine medicated shampoo once a day for 4 days. During this period it is important that no other shampoos or hair products are used on the head.
- It is EXTREMELY important in the first 4 months to wash the scalp very thoroughly in order to stop possible complications. The main thing to remember is that the scalp needs to be totally free of dead or dry skin build up. If an infection occurs it is necessary to ask your doctor to prescribe antibiotics. The usual reason for infections is that the scalp is not being washed thoroughly or scrubbed hard enough, allowing a build up of dead skin. This build-up blocks new hair from coming through, causing an infection.
- It is normal for the newly placed hairs that were attached to the new follicular units to fall out within the first 4-8 weeks post procedure. Do not be concerned, as this is part of the growth process. After the hair has fallen, a new growth cycle begins, that will start to come in within 2-4 months. The newly placed hairs will be fully grown between 8-12 months following the procedure.

Will I have the moth-like look on the back of my head due to the large number of extracted follicles? Absolutely not. The extraction instrument (D.H.I. Implanter) is minimally invasive, and healing is extremely rapid. Five days after the procedure no one will be able to see any evidence that you have had a procedure done. More primitive hair restoration surgeries were easily recognized, such as the “strip method” and they were a prime motivator for the development of the DHII No Touch Technique™. Back to top
How can someone detect that I have had an operation? The first days after the session, tiny red spots may be visible in the donor and recipient areas. These will gradually fade and disappear during the first week. After that period, there are no visible signs, no scarring or stitches in either the donor or recipient area. Back to top
Are there post-procedure instructions so that I do not damage my new hair follicles? Your DHI Medical Group Doctor will provide you with the necessary post-op set of instructions. In general, you have to avoid strenuous exercise for 7 days following the procedure and do not expose your head to strong direct sunlight for 30 days. Back to top
Will my DHI Doctor be available in case something goes wrong (i.e. infection)? Your DHI doctor is available to you at any time and our staff will make sure that you are completely taken care of. Back to top
