STRIP REPAIR DHI no longer offers the ‘Strip’ procedure. This older form of hair transplant involves cutting through nerves and potentially damaging major blood vessels of the scalp to extract hair follicles from other parts of the scalp that serve as the ‘donor area of hair’. This invasive major surgery can only be undertaken under the supervision of a certified plastic surgeon and anaesthetist and requires the monitoring of vital functions. It is best conducted in a hospital setting, which can significantly increase costs. Body hair follicles and hairs cannot be extracted by using the ‘strip' method without depriving the patient of a tremendous area of donor hair. A longer recovery period is needed, with scars and numbing is common. Also with this method, patients must wait months before the procedure can be repeated to increase their hair density. EYEBROW RESTORATION The DHI No Touch Technique is ideal for the reconstruction of eyebrows. The precision of our patented DHI Implanter allows us to place new hairs at the exact angle and direction to recreate a totally natural looking eyebrow. Hairs are aligned to the multiple directions and angles in which eyebrow hair follicles grow to help produce a perfectly natural result. Donor hairs from the nape of the neck are usually the preferred choice in eyebrow reconstruction, as they are much finer than in other areas of the head and closer to the texture and density of regular eyebrow hairs. Below are magnified diagrams illustrating actual DHI eyebrow reconstruction procedures. | Before | After | FEMALE HAIR LOSS Women with unexpected hair loss often face an especially traumatic experience. While early adolescence and the 20s are potential problem times for women susceptible to genetic hair loss, menopause is an equally critical time. Female hair loss usually involves: - Significant increase in hair shedding.
- Shrinking hair fiber diameter.
- A decrease in hair density (hair per square inch).
The most common type of hair loss seen in women is female pattern alopecia, usually brought on by a change in the hormonal balance within the scalp and hair follicle. A natural reduction in the presence of female hormones (estrogens) can change the overall hormonal balance from estrogens to testosterone (male hormone), causing hair loss. Other possible causes of hair loss in women include: - Physical stress: surgery, illness, anaemia, childbirth, rapid weight change
- Emotional stress: strenuous schedule, mental trauma, death of a family member, etc.
- Medication: cancer treatments, blood thinners, anti-depressants, high blood pressure medications, birth control pills, high doses of vitamins, etc.
- Diet: insufficient protein and iron in the diet.
- Thyroid disease: either overactive or under active.
- Alopecia aerate: patchy hair loss areas the size of a coin or larger.
- Ringworm: this fungal infection on the scalp can cause small patches of scaling skin and some hair loss.
