Real Differences Between the DHI™ and FUE. What can I expect during my hair transplant procedure? How does body hair transplantation work? Is DHI painful? When will I see hair growth? How many sessions are necessary before my hair restoration is complete? Can grey hair be transplanted to a thinning area? How will it affect my hair growth if I get the procedure now?
Real Differences Between the DHI Total Care System™ and FUE. In the last decade, there have been great advances in the field of hair restoration. In 2002 DHI Medical Group was one of the major innovators in Follicular Unit Extraction. After years of refinement, DHI replaced FUE in 2004 with the DHI No Touch Technique™, the centerpiece of the DHI Total Care System™. This cutting-edge system offers many advances over FUE.
Here are just a few: By definition, FUE means Follicular Unit Extraction. In the FUE method, there are no specific or uniform advances in hair placement. Most often, forceps are used for placement which can cause “over handling” of the follicle leading to shock and less viable implants.
DHI Medical Group’s specialized tool for extraction, the DHI Implanter, allows us to precisely control placement, depth, and direction of implanted hair. This means that DHI can create a totally natural hairline free from the pitting and discoloration sometimes associated with FUE and other traditional methods.
In one session, DHI’s surgeons can remove up to 6000 individual hairs. FUE is limited to approximately 2000 hairs per day, extracted in bunches of up to 5 hairs. FUE patients are obliged to shave their entire scalp prior to the procedure. Direct Hair Implantation™ does not need a shaved scalp, so there is no need to explain that you received a treatment. Direct Hair Implantation™ can be applied to all hair types whereas FUE candidates must be tested to determine if their hair type is compatible with FUE. In addition, at DHI, specialized doctors perform the entire procedure. Our competitors who use the standard FUE protocol often use a team of nurses to handle the scalp and grafts. While FUE is available in different forms at specific clinics, the Direct Hair Implantation™ is a proprietary technique that is part of the DHI System™ and available only at our clinics. The DHI Total Care System™ provides a comprehensive procedure for all degrees of hair loss and scalp conditions. Back to top
What can I expect during my hair transplant procedure? You will be treated like a VIP, and every possible step will be taken to ensure your comfort. You can take frequent breaks, use the restroom at any time, and rest during the procedure or even take a nap. The entire procedure is carried out under local anesthesia so you can ask questions any time during procedure. In addition, you will have frequent opportunities to see your follicles placed, how the follicles are aligned to match your hairline, orientation, growth angle, and direction of your natural hair. How does body hair implantation work? If your scalp has been damaged from previous strip surgeries or you have an advanced stage of hair loss, we can now move hair follicles from nearly every part of the body such as the back and chest. Amazingly enough, the body hair we select will look and feel just like your own scalp hair after it’s implanted. In fact, body hair that only grows an inch or two on the body will grow as long as scalp hair after a transplant. An added benefit is that this procedure eliminates hair from unwanted places such as the chest and back. Back to top
Is DHI painful? The procedure is virtually painless, for example less irritating than getting a tattoo. DHI applies a local anesthesia, and the client can listen to music, watch TV, enjoy a light lunch and nap during the procedure. Overall, the entire procedure is completed in 4 to 6 hours. There is only a simple bandage the application area, so our clients leave looking virtually the same as when they came in. Back to top
When will I see growth? Growth of your transplanted hairs will be visible after 16 weeks, depending on how quickly the capillaries form around the newly relocated follicular units. This newly transferred hair grows naturally in its new location for the rest of your life, because the donor region is genetically programmed against hair loss. Back to top
How many sessions will be necessary to complete my hair restoration? The number of sessions depends on the size of your balding area, donor yield and your own personal goals. In order to maintain an optimal density over their live times, our clients often opt for two sessions or more. With our diagnostic tools, specially designed equipment, and simple mathematics, you will be fully informed of your total amount of available donor hair. Back to top
Can grey hair be transplanted to the thinning area? Yes, however if the hairs are very white, we may need to temporarily dye the hairs for ease of insertion by our medical staff. A temporary vegetable henna-based dye is used which will wash out with time. Back to top
How will my current hair be affected by the procedure? The operation will not affect the hair you have now. Back to top
